Apple Oat Crisp Pie

"This delicious dessert uses less sugar and more oats for a dense and crunchy topping. It is served as bottomless pie in a plate or bowl, complemented with cream, whipped cream, or ice cream, and lightly garnished with sprinkled ground cinnamon."

Ingredients :

  • 5 Cortland apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter at room temperature, cut into cubes

Instructions :

Prep : 20M Cook : 8M Ready in : 1H20M
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  • Fill pie plate with apples, creating a slight mound.
  • Combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or knife and fork until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until apples are tender and bubbling and top is lightly golden brown, 45 to 55 minutes. Let cool before slicing, about 15 minutes.

Notes :

  • Substitute margarine for the butter if desired.
  • You may substitute apples with drained canned peaches or apricots; reduce the baking time to 35 to 45 minutes.
